Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) in Maryland
Do you have a child with big feelings — tantrums, trouble listening and following directions? Are you feeling exhausted trying to manage it all? Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) may be the support your family needs.
PCIT is an evidence-based therapy for young children (ages 2–6) that helps parents strengthen their relationship with their child while learning effective ways to manage difficult behaviors. PCIT is proven to reduce tantrums, improve listening and increase calm, positive interactions between parent and child.
At Blue Moon Counseling, we offer virtual PCIT across Maryland, allowing families to participate from the comfort of their own home. Many parents find that children behave more naturally during online sessions — giving a more accurate picture of real-life challenges and allowing live coaching to be even more effective.
PCIT is structured in two phases:
Connection Phase: Parents learn to build warmth, trust, and positive attention that strengthen the parent–child bond.
Coaching Phase: Parents are guided on how to set limits, give clear directions, and follow through with consistency.
During virtual sessions, parents receive live coaching through a secure “bug-in-ear” system while interacting with their child. This approach helps parents apply skills in real time and see changes unfold at home.
PCIT is especially helpful for children experiencing:
Frequent tantrums or aggression
Difficulty with transitions or listening
Anxiety or emotional dysregulation
Diagnoses such as ADHD or Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD)
If you’re in Maryland and looking for a child therapist trained in PCIT, Blue Moon Counseling offers compassionate, evidence-based care that meets families where they are — literally and emotionally. Schedule a free 15 minute consultation to discuss your needs.
